Economy to middle market, well suited to families and couples, but probably too quiet for young singles looking for lively, varied nightlife. A strong British presence and also popular with Germans.
Playa d'en Bossa - All Inclusive
Generally young budget to middlemarket clientele, with a strong British presence. Sun, sea and fun lovers, from families and couples to dedicated partygoers. An 18 to 30 crowd dominates the centre whilst families tend to choose the outskirts.
Portinatx - All Inclusive
Middle- to economy-market families and couples. Though tranquil by day, the resort bursts into life at night, with high-volume music and entertainment emanating from bars, restaurants and hotels
Puerto San Miguel - All Inclusive
Middle- to economy-market families and couples; the exception is the Hotel Hacienda (5-star), which is decidedly upmarket. Too isolated for singles – not enough activity
San Antonio - Kids Club All Inclusive
Budget to middlemarket clientele wanting a home away from home, with some sunshine. A youngster's paradise suiting groups of young clubbers, hen and stag groups and those wanting to party round the clock. Very little for those seeking peace.
Majorca
Alcudia - Kids Club All Inclusive
Cosmopolitan, with German and British predominating over Spanish. Gentle, shallow waters and entertainment for children, sufficient nightlife for insomniacs and a few secluded spots for couples.
Arenal
Young singles and couples are most likely to enjoy the rather limited appeal of the resort. The convenient position also suit older visitors who come here, particularly in the low season. Prospective visitors should brush up on their German before arriving.
Cala Bona
A good package-holiday destination with wide appeal, though not the best of bases for exploring the rest of the island. Popular with British and German tourists.
Cala d'Or - Kids Club All Inclusive
Comparatively smart and sophisticated, attracting visitors of similar ilk. The many ups and downs may not suit those with walking difficulties. Families are well catered for in aparthotels
Cala Millor
A sizeable resort of wide appeal, and one with which few would be disappointed. A good package-holiday destination, though not the best of bases for exploring the rest of the island. Popular with German holidaymakers.
Calas de Mallorca - Kids Club All Inclusive
A family venue with a little nightlife. Not for anyone seeking local colour or character because there is none.
Ca'n Picafort - Kids Club All Inclusive
Much quieter than nearby Puerto de Alcudia, this is a place for families and couples to enjoy a relaxing seaside break.
Menorca
Arenal d'en Castell - Kids Club
A fairly lively resort, Arenal is good for families, especially younger ones, and for couples. Not ideal for the elderly because of the steepness.
Cala Blanca - All Inclusive
Bland atmosphere, satisfactory for undemanding quiet-seekers.
Cala'n Blanes - Kids Club All Inclusive
Liveliest resort on the island, although it still has some way to go to compete with resorts of a similar reputation on other Balearic islands. Good for younger families and couples; mid to lower budget.
Cala'n Bosch - Kids Club All Inclusive
A fairly quiet, middle-of-the-road resort, catering best to older couples and families not requiring a large number of activities and diversions.
Cala'n Forcat - Kids Club All Inclusive
Liveliest resort on the island, although it still has some way to go to compete with resorts of a similar reputation on the other Balearic islands. Good for younger families and couples; mid to lower budget.
Mahon
Town base for shoppers and sightseers with public-transport links to many of the outlying beaches and places of interest. A practical alternative for those who prefer the town to the beach.
