Quiet, middle-market choice, suiting families and couples looking for simplicity. Predominantly Germans.

For the more independent holidaymaker who wants a little city action and local culture as well as a beach. Not for those wanting a simple "sun, sea and sand" resort with British pubs and fish 'n' chips.

A good-time resort for those who do not mind crowds but insist on beaches, entertainment and nightlife. Packed with budget-conscious self-catering Germans, Scandinavians and a fair number of British of all ages. A major destination appealing to the gay community.

Puerto Mogan                                                                                                           All ages, although not for those who want lively nightlife. Best suited to guests wanting to relax and eat, especially fresh fish.

Families and couples with a preference for a compact, modern, purpose-built destination offering a good range of facilities and vibrant nightlife.

Those seeking a quieter location within easy reach of the beaches and attractions of Playa del Ingles.

Holidaymakers who like beaches, nightlife and bars in abundant supply and easily accessible. It's the island's biggest and most popular resort. Popular with teenagers, though not a "lager lout" resort.

Costa del Silencio                                                                                                Miles from everything, except the airport. Visitors must be content with such facilities their accommodation provides.

Los Cristianos - Kids Club                                                                                 Families and couples; mainly self caterers. Slightly less brash than its neighbour but hardly highbrow.

Los Gigantes -  Kids Club  All Inclusive
Relaxed and low key, for more discerning couples and families.

Playa de las Americas -  Kids Club  All Inclusive
Gregarious action-seekers. Families and most age groups are well provided for. Popular with the British; also, sadly, with low-lifers and drug peddlers who tend to ply their trade in the main part of the resort called "Veronica's Complex". Do not be put off but be aware.

Playa Paraiso - Kids Club  All Inclusive
Those seeking the quiet life; budget travellers. Mostly British visitors.

Puerto de la Cruz - Kids Club  All Inclusive
Of broad appeal, although the winter months attract more mature guests, especially from central Europe. The weather can be less consistent than in the South and the beaches do not compare.
